13 Design Awards, 1 Branding of the Year Nomination, and a Whole Lot of Gratitude: The Story Behind FYR Diagnostics' Brand Evolution

When I first began the rebrand for FYR; a Montana-based biotech company redefining what’s possible in diagnostics -- I had no idea just how far the work would travel. What started as a deep exploration into FYR’s science, story, and future became one of the most creatively fulfilling branding journeys I’ve had the privilege to lead. And now, two years later, it’s been fully recognized with 13 international design awards, a branding of the year nomination for 2023, and features in two of the design industry’s most respected publications. I’m still letting it sink in.

What Made FYR Special


From day one, FYR stood out. Their science is bold, complex, and full of promise—but what excited me most was their willingness to approach branding with the same level of intention as their research.


This wasn’t a "just make it pretty" kind of project. It was a thoughtful, strategic partnership to re-imagine how a biotech brand could look, speak, and connect in a highly technical and often sterile category.


The goal? Create a brand identity that reflected the power of their science while remaining approachable, credible, and future-ready. The result was a visual and verbal system that ignites confidence and curiosity -- a brand that holds its own whether speaking to investors, collaborators, or patients.


What I’m Taking Away


Awards are wonderful. So are features. But the thing I’m most proud of? This brand feels like FYR.

It shows up with clarity and boldness. It speaks with purpose. It stands out in a space where blending in is easy. And it was built on a foundation of strategy, craft, and collaboration -- not trends.

This project reminded me why I do what I do: to create brands that move people, elevate innovation, and earn their place in the world.
