Adaptiv Immunology Branding

Logos Showoff-09.png
Adaptiv Immunology is a fictional, female-founded, women-led biotech company on a mission to unlock the untapped potential of IgM hexamer antibodies. At the intersection of scientific innovation and societal progress, Adaptiv’s pioneering work would stand out in an industry where female leadership remains rare. Its ambitious vision is to develop first-in-class immunotherapies that combine cutting-edge science with a commitment to advancing equity in biotech.

Overview

As the fictional Adaptiv Immunology advanced its groundbreaking research, it needed a visual brand identity that could match its boldness and sophistication. I moved forward inspired by a clear challenge: to create a visual language that reflects their scientific ingenuity, establishes trust, and celebrates their unique role in the industry. I began crafting a distinctive visual identity for an equally unique and disruptive company.

Though this is a personal passion project, advancing science through design began as it always does, with real research into real competitors. The immunotherapy sector is highly competitive and often steeped in traditional design aesthetics that can feel impersonal or overly technical. Adaptiv warranted something different—an identity that not only reflected its groundbreaking science but also embraced its values of creativity, inclusivity, and resilience.

Visual Identity

Adaptiv's focus on IgM hexamer antibodies, a promising yet underexplored area of immunotherapy, added another layer of complexity. The brand needed to speak to a sophisticated scientific audience while effectively conveying the broad therapeutic potential of these challenging yet transformative molecules. At the same time, it had to honor Adaptiv’s identity as a women-led company in a space where its leadership is both an exception and a statement of purpose.

The journey began with deep research into the science behind antibodies, particularly the IgM hexamer, and the cultural and systemic challenges women-led, female-founded biotech companies face. This dual lens informed every design decision, ensuring the final identity would reflect both the precision of Adaptiv’s science and the disruptive ambition of its mission.

Logo

The Adaptiv Immunology logo was born from a deep dive into the science of antibodies and a desire to create something truly distinctive. My goal was to craft a mark that captured the intricate complexity of Adaptiv’s work while setting them apart from the often literal, on-the-nose logos prevalent in the biotech industry. Starting with the familiar “Y” shape of IgG monomers, I explored its forms and proportions, gradually incorporating elements of the IgA monomer to add depth and versatility. The centerpiece of the design became the IgM hexamer, the focus of Adaptiv’s groundbreaking research. As a less-explored antibody structure with immense untapped therapeutic potential, it became a natural symbol for the company’s bold ambition.

To bring this story to life, I transformed the hexamer’s six-unit structure into an abstract hexafoil, a six-petaled shape historically associated with protection and harmony. This subtle nod to cultural symbolism paired seamlessly with the hexagon—a shape rooted in sacred geometry representing transformation and balance. Together, these elements formed a modern and striking logo that reflects the duality of Adaptiv’s mission: scientific precision paired with bold innovation. The result is a visual identity that not only communicates Adaptiv’s expertise but also positions them as trailblazers redefining the future of immunotherapy.

Visual Language

Further building on the brand's visual language, the color palette further emphasized Adaptiv’s values. Savoy Blue, a blend of dependability and imagination, became the foundation. Accents of magenta and mulberry added warmth and optimism, while deep purples reinforced authority and intuition. Cream neutrals softened the palette, creating a balanced and approachable visual language. Supporting design elements like 3D-rendered proteins and glassmorphic textures brought the brand to life, blending scientific accuracy with a modern, approachable aesthetic.

Every detail, from the 3D structures to the glassmorphic textures, is rooted in Adaptiv’s dual mission: advancing science and redefining leadership in biotech.

The Impact

This identity extends beyond aesthetics; it serves as a storytelling tool, which would theoretically empower Adaptiv to more effectively communicate its groundbreaking work to investors, partners, and collaborators. It positions Adaptiv as a leader in the immunotherapy space, ready to inspire trust and curiosity while challenging norms.

This project was a unique opportunity for me to envision a collaboration with a company that shares my passion for advancing equality in STEM and innovation -- not just in the lab but also in the boardroom.

Here I created more than a brand, but built a platform for Adaptiv to share its story and amplify the potential of what could be. This project reaffirmed my belief in the power of design to drive meaningful change and inspire a brighter future for science and society alike.
